For us, the starting point is the picture:
a) is it wanting the viewer to
‘Look no further than this image?’ which can be reinforced by using a simple low profile frame.
b) is the picture inviting the viewer to
‘Come in and explore my inner dimensions’.
This can be reinforced by using a deep profile frame.
The picture can dictate the choice of mount board within the frame. With the ‘Look-
With the ‘come in and explore my inner dimensions’ we would select a coloured mount to enhance the subject.
The dimensional effect can be reinforced with a
double or triple mount.
There are pictures which look better without a frame, where they wrap round the edges to give the impression that the picture continues somewhere out of sight.
The next question we want to know is:
c) Where will the picture hang and will it have to match any existing décor or feature?
The choice of the frame’s colour and style is important in this instance. An out of context frame and mounted picture can upset the balance of a room’s decor.
d) Will the picture be a main room feature.
In this case we would choose a frame profile to enhance this idea
e) be included in an existing collection of pictures.
If a style of frame has already been established then we would try to match it.
So these provide us with starting points from which we can choose the most appropriate frame and mount from our large stock of mouldings and boards.
Our staff are always on hand to help you choose something

The Nicholson Building has been a part of the Forres Business Community since 1895, providing customer care and exceptional service. Originally a Coach Builders premises
for James Auckland and Sons, The Nicholson Building, has adapted to changing times and the needs of the modern world.
Over a 100 years later we saw an opportunity to make a creative space and collaborate with local artists.
We are all keen to make art as accessible as possible, we think its important to provide work of the highest quality, but at affordable prices. In November 1998, The Nicholson Building was transformed from a disused Car Parts Department and began a new life as The Picture Framer and Gallery.
As well as holding regular exhibitions of art in the gallery; we host and encourage various types of creativity; from poetry evenings, writing workshops, training seminars and painting courses through to enjoyable wine tasting evenings.
We have a small, dedicated team with a wealth of knowledge and experience; as a result a high percentage of our business comes from repeat customers and referrals.
. . . . so how do YOU choose a picture frame?
